Vespers, St. Fiacre was likely inspired by Peterson’s time spent exploring small villages found throughout Brittany, France, beginning around 1907-1908, and shown at the 1910 exhibition of the New York Water Color Club. The painting reveals her strong draftsmanship in rendering the architectural elements within the church as well as her clever, judicious use of gouache to bring focus to the most important parts of the scene, that of the stained-glass windows and the women and children in the foreground reciting their evening prayers.
