James Jeffrey Grant found his “favorite sketching ground” in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Recording the daily activities of the fishermen and villagers with his oils and watercolors, Grant captured life as he experienced it. Here, he captures the dock workers as they unload a shipment of lumber, the cords stacked behind them as they toil away.
