Lamotte belonged to a bound community of European artists who were searching for new styles of expression at the turn of the 20th century. Now referred to as the Fauves, the Cubists, or the Surrealists, Bernard Lamotte found inspiration from the early progenitors of these movements: Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, Chagall and even the abstract expressionists, Mondrian and Kandinsky.
