Windy Day (Two Children), now also known as From the Beach, is a formidable work, not only for its impressive size but also for the painterly strokes of rich color used to render a blustery afternoon on the coast. The children have enjoyed their day at the beach and are now heading home, with the girl watching carefully over her young charge as they traverse the hill. The wind picks up and she grasps her billowing cape while her blond companion looks straight to the viewer, his ruddy cheeks evincing the cooler temperatures compelling their retreat from the sandy shore.
