In 1888, Anna enrolled at the Cowles Art School in Boston, where she was a pupil of Dennis Miller Bunker, and one year later she moved to New York and entered the Art Students League. She also studied privately with William Merritt Chase, and in 1890 she departed for Paris to round out her education at the Académie Julian.
Following her marriage to William Tenney Brewster in 1905, the couple settled in Scarsdale, New York and spent their summers in Matunuck, Rhode Island, just a short ride away from her parents’ home on Conanicut. The Brewsters also continued traveling throughout the United States and abroad, thus Anna was never at a loss for inspiration. Her work was shown frequently at the National Academy from 1884 until 1932, and she also took part in earlier exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy between 1888 and 1898. Brewster was a member of the American Water Color Society and joined the National Association of Women Artists in 1914, and today her work can be found in several museum collections, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art in Indiana and the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.
