Exhibition: Force of Nature: Karl Schrag in Maine
On exhibition May 16, 2024 - July 11, 2024
Karl Schrag was one of the most respected painters and printmakers of the mid-twentieth century, fusing aspects of Modernism, Abstract Expressionism, and Realism into compelling interpretations of nature's moods and movement.
After moving to Deer Isle, Maine, in the 1950s, Schrag drew on the mercurial, ever-changing atmosphere and stark beauty of the Maine coast to create a harmonious, vibrant body of work. He has been honored with retrospectives of his work at the Brooklyn Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine, and at the Syracuse University Art Galleries on the centennial of his birth. This spring, Vose Galleries is pleased to present our first exhibition of Karl Schrag's work, Force of Nature: Karl Schrag in Maine, a selection of over thirty paintings showcasing the artist's unique and captivating efforts to portray the forces of nature at work. The exhibition will be on view online and in the gallery May 16th - July 11th.
