"What a pleasure it was to paint this painting. I like to try different techniques and papers. This is on black Canson Mi Tientes paper – historically Canson began making paper in 1557! Because this paper has little tooth, compared to an artist's sanded paper, I use a different markmaking technique to apply my pastels. The resulting image relies more on graphic strokes, layered on top of each other, to build up the color."
